Chattanooga Football Club has announced the signing of 2022 USL League One champion Mutaya Mwape.
The midfielder from Zambia joins the club from Tormenta FC. Mwape says winning that championship in October is definitely his best soccer memory so far.
Mwape played in the southeast for years so he's familiar with Chattanooga Football Club and is ready to be a contributor in 2023.
"It’s always an honor to be able to represent a team's badge, so I’m very excited to a part of this club's history," said Mwape. "Hopefully I can make the city and the fans proud and hopefully do something special together."
Prior his time in Tormenta, Mwape has professional experience with Charlotte Independence in USL Championship and Richmond Kickers in USL League One. He scored four goals and contributed eight assists in 53 appearances from 2018 to 2020.
Before moving up to the first team with Tormenta, he played for the club's USL League Two team, starting 11 matches, scoring once, and assisting three times. He's been described as a "technically gifted player."
Prior to his professional debut in Charlotte, Mwape also played for League Two’s Ocean City Nor'easters and Charlotte Eagles with which he won the Eastern Conference Championship and league title, respectively.
Collegiately, Mwape played for two years at Lindsey Wilson College between 2016 and 2017, scored 25 goals, and tallied 19 assists in 34 appearances.
Annual passes for the 2023 season Chattanooga FC Men’s team and Chattanooga FC Women’s team are on sale at CFCTIX.com.
