Chattanooga FC is pleased to announce the signing of defender Wilfred Williams to the club. Wilfred comes to the Scenic City with a slew of experience at every level of American soccer. Williams played for CFC once in 2018 against Detroit City FC. Most recently, Williams played for the Oakland Roots.
“He came in and played with us last week, and he’s done really well” said Peter Fuller, Head Coach, Chattanooga FC. “He’s a left footed, left sided defender which we desperately need, and he’s just a really good pro. When he comes into training his expectations are magnificent. He pitches in and does what he needs to do. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Wilfred grew up in Liberia before moving to Johnson City at an early age. He quickly earned looks from professional organizations including FC Dallas’ developmental ranks and the US National team U-15 pool. He began his college soccer career with Memphis before playing a year at Eastern Florida State, where he captained the team to a NJCAA national semifinal and earned first team NJCAA honors. He finished his college career with Oakland University. In 2018, Williams was drafted in the 4th round of the MLS SuperDraft by Sporting Kansas City, and later that year he spent the season with NPSL side Detroit City FC.
“I grew up in East Tennessee and I once played for the club before, so it just made sense to come back and play” said Williams. “They’re giving me the opportunity to play and I’m very grateful.”
