Chattanooga Football Club and Children’s Hospital at Erlanger hosted a Christmas in July Toy Drive encouraging donations for the Child Life department.

The Child Life program has gone through their Christmas donations faster than expected and need the community’s help to brighten patients’ days. CFC supporters and community members can help improve a child’s hospital stay by donating toys, clothing and more. All items must be in new, unused condition.

This was CFC's second year hosting a "Christmas in July" game at Finley Stadium.

"We are thrilled to partner with Children's Hospital at Erlanger on this community project," said Jeremy Alumbaugh, Chattanooga Football Club CEO. "This toy drive fits perfectly into our mission of using soccer to make Chattanooga a better place to live. The generosity of CFC supporters is unmatched and we know they'll come through in a big way for these kids."

“The job of the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger child life department is to make the hospital less stressful for children and their families,” says Lois Simpson, Senior Child Life Specialist at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

“One way we are able to create a better experience for them is through play. We depend on our very generous community to help supply us with these toys. These items may be used to give a child following a difficult procedure, to have something fun for them to do at their bedside, and sometimes to have a gift for a child that will be celebrating a birthday in the hospital. None of this would be possible without your support.”

Every fan who made a donation to the bins at Finley Stadium during the July 23 CFC game were entered for a chance to win great prizes during match.

For larger donations, community members can coordinate with the Child Life department for scheduling a drop-off time.

Erlanger’s Child Life Specialists actively work with patients to minimize stress and anxiety while working to promote a positive medical experience. They help normalize the environment by providing diversion activities, help children and their families prepare for and understand procedures, and provide emotional support.
