Coaches look on as eventual signee Greg Stratton participates in 2022 tryouts
Chattanooga Football Club is pleased to announce the 2023 Open Tryout for the Men’s team will take place on Saturday, January 21. This is part of the club’s long-standing tradition of offering a shot at the first team for anyone in the community.
“This is an important part of our process as a community club,” said Rod Underwood, Sporting Director & Head Coach. “Beyond that it is the perfect opportunity for a player to come into Finley Stadium and make their case for why they belong in the 2023 group.”
In 2022, nearly half of the prospective players came from Tennessee and Georgia — with 14 from the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. Some had history with Chattanooga FC Academy. 2022 Men’s Team signee Greg Stratton, from Marietta, Georgia, was part of the Open Tryout last January.
In addition to the local talent this tryout featured athletes from 21 states. At least 15 of them already had professional soccer experience.
“The idea of an Open Tryout for the first team has been part of CFC’s story since the beginning of the club in 2009,” added Underwood. “Whether the next signing comes from Chattanooga or from outside the area we always want the doors of this club to be open. That’s exactly what this does.”
Players must register in advance here.
The tryout will be divided into a morning session of circuit training from 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by a break for lunch, and then an afternoon session of games from 1:00-3:25 p.m. Check-in for players begins at 830 a.m.
A small number of players from Saturday may be invited to CFC’s Invitation Only tryout the following day on Sunday, January 22.
Stands will be open to the public to watch on Saturday. No ticket is required.
