Chattanooga FC’s women’s side pulled off another thrilling comeback with a 2-2 draw against the 865 Alliance on Friday night in Knoxville.

Goals from Avery Engels (Signal Mtn HS & Lee University) and Krysan St. Louis in the final ten minutes earned an important point on the road as the women in blue remain undefeated on the season.

It was the third match of the season for the women in blue, who completed another two-goal comeback against one of the best teams in the nation on week one before trashing FC Birmingham 7-0 in week two.

Head coach Randy Douglas fielded a strong team, including last week’s hat trick scorer Summer Hernandez from Soddy Daisy HS and Lee University.

There was plenty of action in the first half as two well-matched teams faced off. Chattanooga pushed hard but neither side saw a clear chance at goal. The score sheet would remain static up to halftime.

As things started to heat up in the second half, the home side struck first. A well-placed corner kick found the head of an 865 player that nodded home at the back post. Chattanooga was down 1-0 after 68 minutes of play.

Caroline Johnson pulled out a clutch save in the 72nd minute as 865 had a 1-on-1 chance, but another back post header put 865 up 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

There’s a cliché in football that 2-0 is the most dangerous lead, and Chattanooga proved that to be the case for the second time this season.

In the 81st minute, former CFC Academy product Bailie Dull picked up the ball after a cleared corner chance, lofting it back into the fray.

Avery Engels, also a former CFC Academy product, timed a perfect run to beat the offside trap and get her head to the ball before the keeper, dinking the ball into the net. Chattanooga was back within a goal, 2-1.

A hard working, high pressing Krysan St. Louis was taken down in the box in the 86th minute, earning a penalty kick. She coolly placed the ball low and to the left, giving the keeper no chance to prevent the equalizer. Chattanooga completed a second two-goal comeback of the season, 2-2.

With the dramatic result, the women in blue remain undefeated, proving a much-improved side from last year. The women’s campaign continues just two days later as they visit the Atlanta Fire on Sunday evening.
