Chattanooga Football Club will host AC Houston Sur (USL2) in the Independent Cup final for the southeast region on Saturday, July 22 at Finley Stadium.
The Independent Cup (NIC), is played among 48 clubs spread across 12 regions this June and July. Nine regions will feature one NISA professional club.
This year, NISA also welcomes three clubs from Mexico’s professional league Liga Profesional de Futbol Mexicano (LPF MX) as anchors to three additional regions.
The Mexico-based clubs participating include Miguel Auza FC of Zacatecas, Orizaba FC of Veracruz, and Soly FC of Matamoros.
As in 2022, the tournament is formatted as a round robin tournament between the three amateur clubs in each region using a 10-point system. The winner of that round-robin earns a spot playing the NISA professional club for the regional championship.
The southeast region includes three amateur clubs and Chattanooga FC as the professional club. Amateur clubs are Estudiantes FC (Manor, Texas), AC Houston Sur (Houston, Texas), USL2, and Soly FC (Matamoros, Mexico), LPF MX.
AC Houston Sur earned the right to Chattanooga FC for the southeast region championship in the Independent Cup by winning both games.
Chattanooga FC is going for its fourth consecutive title in the tournament.
