Chattanooga FC is back on the road this weekend and will face Northeast Division side New York City FC II on Sunday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Queens, N.Y.
Chattanooga FC travels to New York for the third time since joining MLS NEXT Pro.
CFC brought two points home after last Saturday's 4-4 draw and 6-5 shootout win against Atlanta United 2. Alex Krehl scored a brace to join Columbus Crew's Zach Zengue and Atlanta's Arif Kovac at the top of the league table with nine goals each. Tate Robertson tallied his seventh of the season while Yuval Cohen bagged his first of the year in stoppage time to equalize and send the match into a shootout.
Securing the extra point in the shootout saw Chattanooga improve to sixth in the Eastern Conference and third in the Southeast Division with a 7W-5L-2D record (24 pts.). CFC is fourth in the league in goals scored (29), just behind Houston Dynamo 2 (30).
Heading into CFC's only regular season matchup against NYCFC II on Sunday, Chattanooga holds the upper hand in the overall record, leading the series 1-0-1. CFC last traveled to face New York on Septermber 28, 2025, walking away with a 1-0 victory.
Coach's corner
Interim Head Coach Richard Dixon spoke with media about the takeaways from last week's match going into Sunday's test in New York.
"We looked back at the game [against Atlanta United 2] and had to applaud and acknowledge the guys for their resilience and grit they exuded to be able to walk away with points," said Dixon. "To come back and draw the game in the dying minutes to secure a point and then come out on top with the extra point in the PK shootout is very important in this league, as those extra points can add up to where you stand at the end of the season, whether its making playoffs or making the top four. That's the beauty of football though, right? There's never an easy way to win every game."
"The guys are in a good place," Dixon continued. "We reflect and we always come back and have the hard conversations, then we go out on the pitch and we try to make sure that we bring things back to our principles. We brought context to the situation and just made sure everybody's on the same page in how we want to continue to progress and attack the second half of the season. The team has responded well. The guys have a clear expectation of what is required from them in their role individually and collectively as a team."
