Why is MLS NEXT Pro changing its schedule?

MLS NEXT Pro is shifting its schedule to better align with the top global leagues. The change is being made to be more efficient for player development and participation in the transfer market.

More benefits to the calendar shift include:

• Alignment of the player pathway schedule: MLS, MLS NEXT Pro and MLS NEXT will all share the same calendar, leading to better ecosystem alignment and providing opportunities for movement between the three levels
• An opportunity to extend the season footprint, reducing the amount of time off between seasons
• Improvement for player movement opportunities (ie player transfers)
• Alignment with the FIFA International Match Calendar

When will the change take effect?

The new calendar begins in 2027, with a transition Sprint Season from February-May 2027, followed by the first full summer to spring season running from mid to late July, through May 2028.

2027 Men's Team Season Tickets

Season ticket memberships will ensure access to all regular season matches during the 2027 MLS NEXT Pro Sprint Season. Tickets will be delivered to your account a minimum of two weeks before the first home match.

Details regarding the matchday experience such as dates, opponents, seating configurations and venue-specific details will be provided when available.

2027 Club Season Tickets

Season ticket memberships will ensure access to all regular season matches during the 2027 MLS NEXT Pro Sprint and WPSL Seasons. Tickets will be delivered to your account a minimum of two weeks before the first home match.

Does this mean we will have more games in cold weather?

One of the many reasons MLS and MLS NEXT Pro modeled the new calendar was to avoid loading cold-weather markets with winter games. The league is adding a full January break and intends to limit home matches in December and February. Even with the shift in start and end dates, 91% of matches will still fall within the same general seasonal footprint as today. Because of that structure, CFC should see roughly the same number, and possibly only a slight increase, of colder-weather home matches as we do now, while also getting a small break from the peak summer heat.
